Hello my name is Tim Berios
I am a private Obstetrician and Gynaecologist consulting at Umhlanga and Alberlito Hospital, along the north coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal.
As an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist , I am uniquely placed to look after women at every step of their journey to motherhood – no matter how complex. From advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery through to personalized antenatal care and delivery.
I provide the high – level expertise patients need at each step along the way. It also means that I can offer outstanding continuity of care, allowing my patients the confidence of knowing they’ll always be looked after by the same person.

Continuity of care is really important to me, and is paramount to the relationship I have with my patients. During your pregnancy , my practice will arrange all your care personally. I am available for your delivery or emergency 24 hours a day, as often as is practicable.
This is achievable because I limit the number of pregnancy bookings I take each month. You’ll get to know me quite well during the pregnancy, and you will never feel like you’re on a production line. I believe that the patient should play an active role in decision making and I believe that you must never feel like a number.
I graduated from the university of the Witwatersrand in 1993 and completed my internship at Baragwanath Hospital. I was then very fortunate to be admitted into the University of Pretoria and complete my registrarship in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology under the watchful eye of world renowed Professors, Prof Lindeque and Prof Patterson. I completed my registrar period at the end of 1999 and decided to move to the wonderful North coast of Kwa Zulu Natal.
My main area of interest in gynaecology is minimal invasive surgery and fertility, which includes all hormonal disorders, such as POCS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), premature ovarian failure and menstrual abnormalities. I have been very privileged to have attended many local and international congresses and workshops where I have been able to home my skills in the area of uro-gynaecology ( repair of vaginal prolapse and stress incontinence, which unfortunately is a very common problem , and which patients tend to be too embarrassed to discuss and therefore ignore).
As well as specialty gynaecology, I can of course offer my patients general gynaecology services as well. If you need a Pap smear, contraceptive advice or have heavy or painful periods, I can definitely help you.
I have really been blessed and feel very privileged to be involved in the field of Obstetrics . I believe in the holistic approach to pregnancy and believe that it involves a close relationship between myself, my patient and her partner. I believe in listening to my patients , and guiding them through this special time of their life.

Through continuous self-education and training, I believe I offer my patients the modern and the most appropriate treatment options. I am an accredited with the Foeto-Maternal Foundation in London to perform the Nuchal Translucency scans ( done at about 11-13 weeks to exclude Downs Syndrome) and have just had my Logbook accepted for 20 week anatomical scans.
I have completed the level 1 and 2 laparoscopic , minimal invasive laparoscopy course , offered by ECRES and just completed the Primary Level Reproductive Endoscopic surgery examination held in Geneva , offered by the ESHRE.
I have completed my Masters Degree in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Valencia, Spain.
I strongly believe in keeping abreast of all new developments in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaelology and therefore I am a member of the following societies, South African Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists , Southern African Society of Reproductive Medicine and Endoscopy, South African Urogynaecology Society.
